Every so often I find my actions motivated not by common sense, - TopicsExpress

Every so often I find my actions motivated not by common sense, but by the thought: what would others think if this scenario went badly wrong? Today was an example. Hiking up towards Mount Allen, Jon and I encountered a black bear about 150m ahead of us in an open meadow. *Our meadow.* On *our* trail. We watched it graze for a bit, then shouted to get it to move. It didnt move. So we got closer. It still didnt move. It also seemed a bit bigger than wed first estimated. Now Im pretty sure that if wed pushed onwards, the bear would eventually have moved. After all, we werent surprising it. It had no cubs. But what if it mauled and ate us instead? What would people say? They saw the bear from a distance, but walked right up to it and got mauled. Dumbasses. Thats what theyd say. So we ducked onto a side trail and walked around the bear. Stupid bear.
