THE CONTEXT Aug 30, 2012: INTRODUCTION TO THE NAME CHANGE Dean introduces the plan to change the name of the college and starts a signature campaign for it in the College Assembly held 1st Semester, AY 2012-2013 April 12, 2013: APPROVAL OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS The UP Board of Regents approves the proposal from the dean to change the name of the college, signaling to organizations to transition to the new designation. June 2013: NEGATIVE REACTIONS School of Business students and outside sectors call into question the name change, emphasizing that Virata was a significant figure during the Marcos regime June-July 2013: SOLICITATION OF STATEMENT FROM DEAN Council solicits a statement from the Dean thrice regarding the name change: 1. Chairperson Cortez asks Dean about the possibility of releasing a statement answering the allegations. The Dean says there is no need for a statement. 2. A CBA-er asks about the name change issue during the Deanship Selection Assembly. The Dean says that the faculty has agreed to release a statement in the near future. 3. Vice Chair and VSB Rep follow up on the statement. The Dean says the faculty has yet to gather upon it.
