Finally in 1926 on this day a man named Peter Aurness was born. Don’t recognize the name? Probably because we all know him as Peter Graves. Peter was an American film and television actor who’s best known for his starring role in the CBS television series Mission: Impossible from 1967 to 1973 (original) and from 1988 to 1990 (revival). In his career he’s appeared in more than seventy films, television shows, and television movies. 1950s, he joined the NBC television series “Fury”, as the rancher and adoptive single father, Jim Newton; World War II film, Stalag 17 (1953); as Christopher Cobb in 34 episodes of the TV series “Whiplash” (1960-61); guest roles in such series as “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”, “Cimarron City”, “Route 66” and “The Invaders”; he played Palmer Kirby in the 1983 ABC miniseries, “The Winds of War” which was the second most watched miniseries of all time (after Roots); as Captain Clarence Oveur in both the early 80s comedies “Airplane!” and it’s sequel; & in the 1990s, he hosted and narrated the documentary series Biography on A&E On October 30, 2009, Graves was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
