Fiona Woolf is clearly not suitable for the role of chairing the inquiry investigating historical child abuse, said a Labour MP who previously investigated child abuse by Cyril Smith. Simon Danczuk said the role could not go to someone who was too connected to the Establishment and former home secretary Leon Brittan, and who did not have the confidence of the public or the survivors of child abuse. The MP told Jo Coburn on the Daily Politics that many survivors were suspicious of the governments handling of this and he accused the government of unnecessary delays. Downing Street has said it had full confidence in the Lord Mayor of London. Fiona Woolf was appointed to the role following Baroness Butler-Sloss resignation, after victims families were concerned about her independence.
