First day of school. . . Scared but excited. That’s how one Israeli teacher described feelings on this first day of the school year as Israel’s little ones return to the classroom. Especially on the kibbutzim in the front lines of the nearly eight weeks of rocket fire from Gaza the usual trepidation at the beginning of a new school year was heightened by the recent violence. At Nahal Oz, where four year old Daniel Tregerman was killed a little more than a week ago, many parents are still hesitating to return home and their children will be starting the year at other safer locations. Still, as the blessed quiet continues, the threat that it will be shattered still looms.
