Fitting in… Anyone can say that they do not let things bother - TopicsExpress

Fitting in… Anyone can say that they do not let things bother them. They don’t care what others think. Take “the tough attitude” and blow it off. At my age, I finally care less than I ever have but, when I am around people, especially ones I respect, I find myself uncomfortable. Whether it is my mixed heritage, my seeming devotion to a lack of wealth, or just those things I consider my personal “short comings”, I often feel like the stray dog in the pack. Even surrounded by the best people in the world, I can get anxiety. My own fault and I am trying to do better. As a result, when I see people or animals scared and unsure, I try to go out of my way to reassure them. With a kind word or a loving scratch we often have the power to make someone’s day. Maybe, at the right moment, even make someones life... And I am sure, coming here to a completely new environment and totally unknown people must be almost devastating to an animal. So much unknown. The stray dog... With that, please say “hello” and welcome our newest scared girl. I can’t say I know much of her story and may not want to but she came to us starving, sick, and very scared. Her skin has been inflamed due to what we think is a food allergy. There is a distinct odor of skin soughing off in reaction to something; hopefully a change in her diet is fixing this. Her stomach seems to be doing better as she no longer has bad potties. Her energy is better. She does a few tail wags now. And, one of the things I pay attention to: the eyes. Often when they come here in this shape, there is fear, worry, and anger reflected in their eyes. But the other look I see, the one that is so sad…hopelessness. A darkness in the eyes that reflect their resignation to this life. Acceptance of the belief that this world is not good and that they will never know goodness. And then, little by little, scratch by scratch and treat by treat, the light comes back into their eyes. It is a wonderful thing to see. The second photo is the most recent. Thank you all for making this possible for them. Every day…
