Following writing a bid to Commonwealth for Cumnock Community Council – I am delighted to inform everyone that we have been successful with this and with support of local businesses. It is to organise a COMPLETELY FREE day to celebrate the Queens Baton passing through Cumnock with a massive community activity day in Broomfield Playing Fields. All we need is the weather and it will be a huge success. The event will take place on Saturday 21st June – times are to be finalised and will be provided at a later date – the event will probably start right after the baton leaves Cumnock (approximately 11.30a.m.) and finish around 3p.m/4p.m. • Yipworld has taken responsibility to coordinate a TOTAL WIPEOUT (IT’S A KNOCKOUT for us older ones) event coordinated by an events company that will provide 10 different games for 20 to 40 teams. • Visions Leisure Centre are opening their doors free of charge on that day • Codona shows will be there with free rides for children and young people • Cumnock Rugby Club are organising a ‘touch down’ tournament for 100 people • Cumnock Juniors are organising a five a side tournament • Both of the finals will take place in the middle of Broomfield Playing Fields • Adam Strain – East Ayrshire Vibrant Communities is the liaison person for the event and is currently working on the finer details of public entertainment license etc. Adam has also offered to have yipworld youth workers/childcare staff to have face painting training in order that we can provide an additional activity for younger ones on the day • Cumnock Community Council has put a lot of effort in to the event – working tirelessly to promote to local business; arrange Commonwealth Games medals for every single pupil in primary schools (funded by this grant); t-shirts and a goodie bag on the day with juice; crisps etc. Janice Hendry Development Director 19 Barrhill Road CUMNOCK East Ayrshire KA18 1PG Tel: 01290 422364
