Friday Facebook Facts: The first pregnancy from a donor egg was reported in 1983. The egg recipient was 38 years old. Unfortunately, the pregnancy ended in a spontaneous miscarriage at 10 weeks. The following year however, a 25 year old with ovarian failure became the first reported case of a successful, term delivery of a healthy baby after receiving a donor egg from a 29 year old. There are various reasons for infertile couples to consider egg donation, some include advanced maternal age, repeat miscarriages, ovarian dysfunction, or prior IVF failure using their own egg. With the increasing numbers of later life marriages and many women postponing childbearing secondary to career or school endeavors, the number of egg recipients is growing locally, nationally, and globally. MRM is pleased to offer a donor oocyte (egg) program for our clients. Donors and recipients are a unique group and we are excited to utilize this therapy, as it is certainly an unconditional gift of life.
