Friday night rolls around and we all want to see the milestones - TopicsExpress

Friday night rolls around and we all want to see the milestones and this week we have the added excitement of finals football with weather to match. This week we have a big 1, 2, 3... hundred that is. First cab off the rank is Andrew Gillies raising the bat for a century of games. A quiet and unassuming man he is a solid performer and regular at the top end. I am, however, led to believe he loses his inhibitions and quiet nature after a few frothies! Bringing up his 200th game is another quiet man... mainly because we rarely see him. Tom Fay is one of the very solid umpires we need, making a good contribution on the park each week during his games. Rounding out the big games are two absolutely cracking blokes. Greg Alford and Steve Docherty bring up 300 games each. They might be in different disciplines but each is highly respected for their work both on the ground and at the track. Looked up to by their peers they give freely of their experience and are great contributors to the umpiring group. Well, spring is in the air and one umpire certain to have a spring in his step is Nick Jankovskis. I am not sure there is much more I need, or have, to say about Nick. Having achieved everything he wanted last year, he made the decision to fully dedicate himself to senior football this season... and hasnt it paid off - with his senior games tally still in single figures, Nick walks out on Morton Park tomorrow for his 1st Division 1 Senior game. Great achievements from all and we wish you, and all those running D3 &D4 finals, all the best and urge you to do your best and have fun! Go Umps!
