Funkalates!!! So….I got roped into doing a new class at the gym which this whacky trainer guy seemed to be raving about. Of course I gave it a go, and low and behold am now stiff as a board and it’s only the evening of that very same day!!! Oh dear for tommorow! Funkalates involves a mixture of funky dance steps, yoga, and pilates. It really does test your flexibility and muscular endurance as you repeat movements until the muscles really are burning. You will recognise the incorporation of downward-dog- and a few other yoga-esque moves- if you’ve been involved in any sort of yoga or pilates before, but the twist on things is that it is done at a much faster pace, really giving you a cardio workout. It’s great fun, even if you’re not too flexible….picture a room full of women trying to copy a fit, lean and elasticcy trainer as he casually says “ok, lift one leg, grab your heel and lift it to the sky keeping the leg straight”… cause for a chuckle indeed. So even if your hamstrings are getting a severe beating, your tummy muscles will be getting toned with the constant rumble of laughter.
