Goats coffee thought of the morning: True liberalism allows everyone to live the life they choose, regardless of beliefs, regardless of philosophy ... it is the ideal that we are each autonomous beings living in a world we may personally abhor, but in which we allow ALL other possibilities of life and being and thought. When dogmatism (the tendency to lay down principles as incontrovertibly true) truncates diversity by forcing others to live outside of their beliefs in the public sphere we are no longer free to be individuals in a collective society. When we assail others for their personally held beliefs and attempt to quash their deeply held beliefs via governmental dictate, we are no longer acting out of tolerance for the diversity of life - we are acting intolerantly. When that happens, we are no longer free and ...liberalism be damned.
