Good Afternoon Staff, Parents and students below is the announcement from the outcome of the Governance Councils meeting this morning. COLLECTIVE STATEMENT TO PRESS FOR AUGUST 7, 2014 First and foremost to our parents, students and the community that supports the Southwest Primary, Southwest Intermediate, Southwest Secondary and SAMS charter schools, we want to assure you that school will open on time and the excellent educational programs that you all expect for the staff to provide will continue. To the authorities to which our schools report, be assured that a swift and thorough investigation into the concerns raised by the State Auditor will be conducted and all appropriate remedial actions taken. We will of course cooperate fully with any further requests for information from the FBI. Because of concerns raised by the recently initiated FBI investigation and the report we received Tuesday night from the State Auditor’s Office, the four Governing Councils have unanimously decided to place Dr. Glasrud on administrative leave until further notice. He will remain on this status until further action by the Governing Councils as determined necessary. The Governing Councils will hold meetings in the upcoming weeks to review and take appropriate action on pending contracts of concern identified by the State Auditor, including the airplane leases and lease for the Montgomery Building. This will require an assessment of the programs served by these leases and consideration of alternatives for the programs. We will likely have to temporarily suspend the pilot program until we can make alternative arrangements to provide aircraft and are assured that the program meets the objectives of the high schools’ missions. Of course, no final decision has been made and we will have discussions around this in open meetings for public comment. While we regret any inconvenience this may cause our families, it is clear from the State Auditor’s report changes need to be made that will impact this program. The Councils will also be investigating the concerns by the State Auditor around misinformation or failure to provide information during the auditor’s review of the schools’ financials. Certainly, if any information was withheld we will make every effort to locate and produce that information as directed by the State Auditor. It is our intent to fully cooperate with all directives of the Public Education Department or Public Education Commission. Please know that the Governing Councils take the Auditor’s report very seriously and we are committed to moving quickly to conduct a thorough and comprehensive review of the findings, however, at this time, we have more questions than we do answers. We are troubled and deeply concerned by these unfortunate events, especially as we start a new school year. The Governing Councils want our students, parents and staff to know that we will work through and resolve all of these issues. Again, we assure our faculty, students and families that school will open on time and that there is no indication from our governing authorities that there will be interruption in our programs. We encourage parents and community members to attend meetings and to reach out for information, if you are concerned about the schools. Finally, we thank all of our students for their excellent academic and personal achievements shown while attending our schools. It is our students that have given the Southwest group of schools their outstanding reputations.
