Good morning everyone and Happy Easter! Rain, some heavy at times will move into Central Southern parts of England throughout this morning and will move North and West during the rest of the day. The Northern extent of the rain is not looking to be as significant as first expected with the heaviest rain taking a more Westerly track - mainly south of the M4 although lighter and patchier rain is likely further North in parts of Wales and the Southern Midlands. South Western parts of England will see showery rain at first, becoming more persistent later and the case will be pretty much the same for South Eastern parts of England too. Some of this rain could be thundery at times although the overall risk is low. A rather lively cluster of showers, currently over parts of South Lincolnshire extending into the East Midlands will steadily move North West and should gradually ease. This cluster of rain has produced some lightning this morning although the risk diminishes as it moves North West. There is a chance of further thundery showers developing today ahead of the main area of rain although these will be rather isolated. Elsewhere in England and Wales sees a drier day, with quite a lot of cloud in places, especially in Eastern England although some bright or sunny spells are possible at times, especially the further North and West you are. An odd shower cannot be ruled out but many places will remain dry away from the main area of rain featuring in todays weather. Scotland, Northern Ireland and perhaps the far North West of England will see less in the way of cloud with some decent sunshine on offer here during the day. Cloud will tend to increase a little from the South and East later but most parts will remain dry. A brisk North Easterly wind for many today, especially in England and Wales. Lighter winds are expected across Scotland and Northern Ireland but increasing here a little later. Todays pollen count will be moderate for the majority of the UK, although low levels are expected in Northern and Western Scotland. The UV index today will be low in Southern counties of England where we will see the cloud and rain. Moderate values are expected for the remainder of England and Wales and also Northern Ireland. Scotland will also see moderate UV levels today, with the exception of the far North and West of Scotland where levels will be low. Maximum temperatures today generally ranging from 12°C to 16°C for England and Wales although perhaps a little cooler than this in Southern areas where rain persists. North Western parts may see temperatures reach 19°C locally. Feeling particularly chilly along Eastern coasts in the fresh to strong breeze. Scotland will see typical highs ranging from 10°C to 16°C with the mildest of the weather being in Northern and Western parts. Maximum temperatures in Northern Ireland today will range from 11°C to 14°C. This evening and into tonight the area of rain affecting Southern parts of England will steadily continue to move North and West with drier conditions following on behind. The rain will generally tend to fragment and ease as it continues its journey, although some heavier bursts are still likely, particularly in Wales and Western parts of England later this evening before drier weather arrives from the South East. More Eastern parts of England will see some rain at times but this is likely to be light and patchy in nature for most, perhaps easing completely later in the night although remaining rather cloudy. Elsewhere in England and Wales will see a mainly dry night with variable amounts of cloud and some clear spells in places, although some mist and fog is likely for some parts as winds ease a little. Scotland will see a mainly dry night with some clear spells developing in places although low cloud and hill fog will move in to affect many Eastern parts during the second half of the night. Some drizzle is possible at times here. A rather cloudy night to come for Northern Ireland with mist and hill fog in places, especially in Eastern parts. Some rain may affect South Western parts of Northern Ireland throughout the night but this is likely to be very light and patchy. Minimum temperatures overnight will typically range from 6°C to 9°C for much of England and Wales, perhaps a little cooler in rural areas although most places should remain frost free. Scotland will see minimum values ranging from 5°C to 8°C for most although colder than this in the highlands where a patchy frost is possible in places. Most areas remaining frost free though. Overnight lows in Northern Ireland will range from 7°C to 9°C for most, meaning a frost free night here. Have a lovely Easter Sunday. - Jon
