Gun violence can be traced to two primary causes, criminal activity and mental illness. Mass shootings are a mental health issue... until the stigma is eliminated and a truly compassionate health care system is in place we will continue to see these tragedies. The continued "why do people do this" or "what is wrong with society" response is an unwillingness to confront the real issues. How polite or friendly a person is has nothing to do with any mental illness that they might be experiencing, society has to be educated on the signs that someone needs help and how to get them that help.
