Happy 40th Anniversary AMBA - heres an amazing story from a mum who didnt know she was having twins until she gave birth! I am the mother of identical twin girls who are turning 40 this month. We also have a boy who is now 42 years old. I didnt know I was expecting twins until they were born at 32 weeks (the Doctor did say when I was 13 weeks that it seemed different & that I was going to have a “big baby” or more than one baby – our family history was neither case. Ultrasounds came into operation after our twins were born in 1974. They were only 3lbs 5 ozs born & were put into humidicribs and the “hot house” in those days. We were very fortunate they were very active and did not develop respiratory trouble. They spent 7 weeks in hospital until they gained weight to at least 5 lbs to be able to bring home. We transported our twins end to end in a car basket. We had a back to back stroller with a hood, which was very good for going through doorways, but they couldnt sleep sitting up and they often bumped heads. It was very good, in fact a great asset to be a member of the “Wollongong Parents of Twins & Triplets Association”. We all seemed to “speak the same language” and we were a great support for each other. We used to have playgroups and lots of social outings. Some of our children now have children of their own. As parents we still enjoy social outings, in fact three of us are doing an overseas trip together in August.
