High Court Judge George Odunga said: We cannot limit the freedoms and inalienable rights in the pretext of fighting terrorism, which must be done in the confines of the law, AP news agency reports. What if it was an Ethiopian court adjudicating this case? In the first place, this regime made sure that the judiciary is paralyzed by firing all independent minded judges and replacing them with tribal minded and opportunistic little personalities such as Menberetsehay Tadesse,Kemal Bedri, etc. Second by making sure that court will have no jurisdiction to deliberate on matters of constitution. At a time like this, I always raise the question whether Ethiopia deserves to continue as a seat of the African Union? Ethiopia is no longer a symbol of unity but fragmentation. Its human rights and rule of law record too, compared to nations that came into being recently in comparison with its proud long history of independence is lamentable.
