Hindus belong to Hinduism... Hinduism does not belong to Hindus. This is the difference between a cultural heritage and cultural capital. Cultural capital is a commodity to be flaunted, invested and exchanged. The much vaunted sanskruti of the Hindutva RSS types is precisely that, a capital. This much is evident by their failure to understand and follow sanskruti. If we talk about a heritage or a religion, then its proprietorship cannot be limited to a specific racial, communal, caste or regional group. Sanatan dharma is too vast to just belong to the Hindus. In fact it does belong to Maqbul Fida Hussain as much as it does to Mohan Bhagwat. Hinduism is not Mohan Bhagwats paternal property that he can include or exclude anyone as he wishes, neither Asaram Basu nor Baba Ramdev nor our four criminally minded Shankaracharyas can claim that right. Whereas a religion by definition being a soteriological discipline can be claimed by anyone, Muslims, firangs, animals and women included. Unfortunately most Hindu men are too stupid to realise it.
