I am participation in the Hivos Social Innovation Award 2014, a competition that encourages new solutions for social change, and youth empowerment. I have been qualified for the second stage of the competition. In order to be qualified for the semi-finalist and finalist stages, I kindly request you to vote for my idea as part of the over 400 entrants. My innovation is titled “Youth Sustainable Waste Management Business Assistant Project”. This Innovation which involves Primary Waste Collection from households, and small businesses, and collecting, buying and reselling of Recyclables has to key goals; first, to provide socioeconomic empowerment opportunities/income for youth from socially, economically and politically marginalized groups between ages 18-25 years and second, to deal with the problem of improper waste disposal and environmental protection in parts of Paynesville city, Liberia. In order words, the project aimed to clean up the community by means of proper waste control methods which will prevent diseases/germs from spreading and at the same time provide income by which beneficiaries can support their livelihoods.
