I am sorry to see that Charlie Weis did not get to complete his tenure at Kansas. I really hoped he would do well. He is a Notre Dame Graduate, so I always want to see our people succeed. Also, he gave us two remarkable years of football at Notre Dame (even though his last 3 years were not so good, especially 3-9 season that was just painful). While at ND he brought some amazing players into the spotlight. He recruited Manti Teo whose defensive skill helped make ND #1 for a month and a half in 2012-2013. Between his two BCS bowl games while at ND, he brought about 18 million dollars in revenue to ND (Fiesta and Sugar Bowl). I know he made a lot of people mad with his Bill Parcells style of coaching, but every time I spoke with him he was extremely kind and respectful. He also was very supportive of the Band, respected the ND student body, and would say that we are all part of coming together to help make the football team successful. I will always remember the 2005 USC pep rally in Notre Dame Stadium with 39,000 people present (televised on ESPN). It was an hour long with greats like Joe Montana speaking. It was Charlies first year, his 6th game, and he had people believing we could beat USC with Leinart, Bush, Pete Carroll. Even though we lost that game (although we actually really won it as USC had to vacate that win and the Bush push was illegal) he had the class to walk over to the USC locker room and congratulate their team. And who could forget pass right, the dream of a boy (dying from a brain tumor) to call a play for Notre Dame. youtube/watch?v=cUFwsG59Ejc Being Notre Dame isnt just about winning (although that is a lot of it). It is also about being supportive when things dont go well. Anyone can cheer when we are winning, but those who truly care will be supportive and respectful win or lose. That is what ND is about. That is family. I will always respect Charlie for the good he did and the great interactions I personally had with him. Also, because of Charlie, I got to meet Jon Bon Jovi. For a kid who grew up in the 80’s, that was like meeting the president. youtube/watch?v=7b7fkj_3cuM
