I met Bryan Ferry for the first time on April 22, 1979, during the San Diego State stop of Roxy Musics Manifesto tour (if both memory and the Intraweb serve me right). Having been a hardcore fan from the time I was a teen, when I used to listen to a cut-out 8-track tape of the bands debut album while folding newspapers for my route, there was no way I was going to miss Roxys first S.D. appearance. I cant remember where on campus I waited for the band, or how I ended up there, but I do recall being by myself that afternoon/evening when the limo(s?) finally arrived. I was fortunate enough to have the entire band (Ferry, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, and Paul Thompson) autograph my copy of Roxys Siren album (I was somewhat annoyed that ex-Adam and the Ants bassist Gary Tibbs, who was touring with band, but didnt play on the album, signed it as well). Ferry, Manzanera, and Mackay also signed a few of their solo albums for me (Another Time, Another Place, Diamondhead, and In Search of Eddie Riff, respectively). It wasnt much, and I remember little of the show (I do seem to recall it being woefully undersold, but hey, it WAS San Diego), but all in all, it was a pretty damn exciting day for a 20-year-old diehard Roxy fan. https://youtube/watch?v=OHGGZ_rNGAc
