Fishermans Cove Conservation Area 391 Third Avenue Manasquan, NJ, US 08736 Hours: 24-7 Cost: Free Leashed pets are welcome year round. This park is known to the locals as the dog beach. It is located at the Manasquan Inlet, which is the beginning of the Intercoastal waterway on the eastern seaboard. Ft. De Soto Paw Playground and Beach 3500 Pinellas Bayway S. Saint Petersburg, FL, US 33715 (727) 582-8867 Hours: Cost: Free The Paw Playground has large fenced areas for both large and small dogs, including dog showers for those hot days. Dogs are allowed anywhere in the park on a six-foot leash, except on any beach. The Paw Playground area is the exception -- dogs are allowed on the beach, and they are allowed off leash on that area of beach. They can also run free inside the fenced areas. On a hot summer day, you can cool off your dog by hosing him down, and drinking water is available too. The park also has plenty for two-legged visitors too -- an old Spanish fort to explore, gorgeous parks, overnight camping with plenty of amenities, and picnic areas. The north beach was named Americas #1 beach in 2008 & 2009 by Trip Adviser. 8th Ave Dog Beach 8th and Ocean Asbury Park, NJ, US 07712 Cost: free During the summer season, this is a designated dog beach in the early morning. In the offseason, dogs are allowed everywhere, except the boardwalk. Off season is Sept. 30th to May 1st. Assateague National Seashore Assateague Island Ocean City, MD, US 18032 Hours: 24 hours and the visitor center is open 9 am to 5 pm 7 days a week. Dogs are allowed on the beach at the Assateague National Seashore, but not the three short nature trails. Crabtree Falls 11581 Crabtree Falls Highway Charlottesville, VA, US Hours: Dawn to Dusk Cost: $5 per car Crabtree Falls is the highest vertical-drop cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River and is located in Nelson County, Virginia, just six miles off the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway near milepost 27. Crabtree Falls features a series of five major cascades and a number of smaller ones that fall a total distance of 1,200 feet. The first overlook is just a few hundred feet from the upper parking lot along a gentle, paved trail, making it an excellent stopover for travelers of all ages and abilities. The more adventuresome hiker may continue along the 2 and 1/2 mile Crabtree Falls Trail to four other overlooks offering spectacular views of the Crabtree Creek Falls and the Tye River Valley. Crabtree Falls can be reached from the Blue Ridge Parkway by travelling to milepost 27. Exit onto VA 56 going east and follow the signs to Crabtree Falls (about 6.3 miles). It is open from dawn to dusk daily. Well-behaved dogs are permitted off-leash on the trail. All other dogs should be leashed.
