I see you on the elliptical for an hour and a half, going at a pace slow enough to start moving backwards. There is another way!! A quicker, better, more efficient way! What if I said you could be off of that hamster wheel in less than half an hour? HIIT (high intensity interval training) isnt as intimidating as it sounds. It just means you work really hard in short bursts, and then follow that with a period of low intensity work, or rest. For instance, sprinting as fast as you can for one minute, and then walking/ jogging lightly for one minute; and then repeating that pattern, or a similar pattern, depending on how much rest you need, for the duration of your workout. The key is getting your heart rate moving up and down in an unpredictable way, to essentially confuse your body, and make it work harder to come back to your resting heart rate. You should be working hard enough that your body can barely handle more than half an hour; I usually do 15-20 min, after a 3 minute warm up. Therefore, you long distance elliptical lovers: when you are on that thing, going at a steady pace, you are only burning calories while you are on it; however, when you confuse your body and incorporate periods of high intensity work, you will burn calories all DAY (=faster metabolism:)) & have more time in your day!
