I slapped a stranger in the face this afternoon. I dont slap elderly people often. Its cruel. But when the situation calls for it - very necessary. Today called for it! As usual, I was minding my own business. Theres a lot of it to mind and I wasnt paying attention to where I was going. When Im texting, Im very focused. I dont trust spell-check, for instance - so I cant be expected to watch where Im going. People arent generally stupid. When a normal person sees someone is busy texting - its simple - they adjust. So... This old woman [ or man, at that age does it really matter? ] bummed right into me while I was in the super market aisle. Watch where youre going! She said. Well, more like yelled it at me. As she was picking up the groceries she dropped all over the place I thought to myself, Really? Thats how you talk to someone? I didnt want a confrontation. I didnt want to have some loud argument with a geriatric lunatic. So I kicked one of the apples she dropped before she could scoop it up. My intention was that she would hobble after it and leave me alone - she messed up my texting and now I was going to have to backspace a few characters. Instead of following the apple down the aisle she gives me this look. Thats when enough became enough. I knelt down to her level and SLAP! Right in her wrinkled old mug! The funny thing is, now I feel kinda bad. Yes, I defended my personal space but I let my emotions ruin my day and control me. Lesson learned, I suppose.
