I stopped into the Annapolis Goodwill after work today to look for - TopicsExpress

I stopped into the Annapolis Goodwill after work today to look for some records. There already was a guy looking through the racks, so I went up and asked if he found anything good. He had some Crosby Stills and Nash, but nothing I was heartbroken over missing. I went though the albums and didnt find anything. As I was leaving I decided to check the electronics section for turntables. They never have any, but what the heck. As I walk up I see this baby sitting there for $10. It said as is and I wondered if it worked. I found a plug and tried it out. It lit up when I moved the arm over, but did not spin. I was a bit bummed but figured I would buy it anyway. I figured even if I couldnt get it to spin I could use the platter as a base for a DIY record vac cleaning machine. I got it home and gave it a cleaning. Pulled the platter off and the belt seems new. Brought it in the house without the platter and plugged it in. Nothing but the strobe. I then looked at the speed switch and it said off. Duh. I moved it to 33 and the motor started spinning. Yay. Not sure if the speeds are right and when I would adjust the fine speed controls the platter would sometimes almost stop on the 45 setting. So I want to move forward seeing if I can get it working, but it is missing a head shell and cartridge. I have a cart I can use from my currently laid up Pioneer PL100, but dont think the head shell fits. It might though. I dont want to spend a lot of dough if it is a lost cause. Any suggestions on next steps. I wonder if this would be a step up from my current Pioneer PL4, which sounds pretty good? I also have a Pioneer PL100 that the counterweight arm broke off of when it was shipped to me. I crazy glued it back on, but not sure if will ever play right again. I need to test it out. Thanks for reading. I sure do write some long posts sometimes.
