I try not to post this poem too often, as its a real tear jerker, but after a bad week, I thought it was appropriate. This week we lost two very special young horses; its always tragic to lose any horse, but all the more difficult when they are still babies, and the loss is so unexpected and sudden. I hope both are enjoying galloping around in heaven now! This will bring a tear to your eye...but a beautiful poem... The Horses Wish......... If the day should come when Im in pain, And you know I wont be well again Promise youll do what must be done If this is the battle that cant be won. Itll break your heart, but please be kind, Dont let your grieving sway your mind For this is when youll let me see Just how much you do love me. Together weve had happy years The future now can hold no fears Please dont let me suffer- so When that day comes, please let me go. For my usual vet please will you send? But stay with me until the end... Hold me steady, speak to me Till my bright eyes no longer see. In time I hope youll come to see, Its the last kindness youll do for me. One more time please stroke my mane And know that Ill have no more pain. And dont be sad that it was you Who decided this was what to do, Weve been such buddies through the years Dont let me be the cause of tears.... Youll always see me graze now, with the sun upon my back Painful limbs wont tire me now, however long the hack. I live now in your heart and mind, a lovely place to stay. And what you have in memories, no one can take away.
