I was just watching Highly Questionable on ESPN. Love the show! Dan Le Batards dad reminds me of my father! hahaha However, thats not the purpose of this post. In the last block of the show the topic was is Marshawn Lynchs continuing battle with media in post-game interviews still funny or awkward? After Saturdays playoff WIN he took the awkwardness to a whole new level. Dig up the post game interview and check it out for yourself. The bottom-line is this, regardless of what your opinion is on this, Marshawn Lynch has a responsibility to meet with the media after the game, period. I have interviewed a number of athletes in my career, just like many of my facebook friends who worked and continue to work in the media. If an athlete has a speech problem or a social anxiety most if not all of my media brethren would back off, I promise you that. With Marshawn Lynch that is not the case or at least it seems to not be the case when he sat down for an E60 interview and he was GREAT! He was articulate, engaging and honest. It was one for the more interesting E60 stories Ive seen. Take a look: https://youtube/watch?v=zaJXI7669sQ What hes doing right now is holding a grudge against the wrong group of people. Those who cover the team are just trying to do their jobs. Hes one of the best players in the league for the defending Super Bowl Champs After games, the media approaches him, he then does what he does, and then gets fined. Its not the medias fault the NFL is taking money out of his pocket. The last month the Seahawks have been killing it and all the questions thrown his way have been softball sized meatball questions like, awesome play on that 3rd down Marshawn can you talk about how great you played? How about Cam Chancellors dance after the interception wasnt that great? Wow Marshawn you and Seattle have been on a great run, Right?! Im not kidding, THESE are the questions. How can anyone have an issue with that? For those who make the argument good for him because he gets paid to play football you dont understand how being a pro athlete works. You get paid because people pay OUTRAGEOUS amounts to see you play, but more importantly you make MILLIONS because leagues get BILLIONS from TV contracts. Part of the job of the athlete, especially if youre a star athlete, is helping promote your sport. Part of that is meeting with the media after games. Its really simple. If you just want to play football and not be bothered by the media, go play in the CFL. If you want to play hoops and not be bothered, go play overseas. Those leagues are very competitive but dont get the BILLION DOLLAR deals because they dont get a 10th of the eyes. You can play the sport you love and not have to deal with all the media hassle. However, dont complain when no one watches or cares and dont complain when you miss out on MILLIONS because of it. The option is there. If Marshawn Lynch said I cant take any more of the media attention heres the solution--go to the CFL and I PROMISE after the initial week of training camp or after the 1st week of the season. NO ONE WILL CARE and NO ONE will bother you for interviews and because of that instead of making 8 Million a year, youll make, MAYBE, a 10th of that. Still want to not speak with the media after the game?
