I was thinking about keeping this second pregnancy a surprise to - TopicsExpress

I was thinking about keeping this second pregnancy a surprise to everyone but my family. But shedding more light on the controversy surrounding vaginal births after cesarean (VBAC) was one of the reasons I decided to reveal my bun in the oven. Ideally, I would like to have a natural vaginal birth similar to how I gave birth to Ava, but my current OB/Gyn immediately deaded that idea. Ive never had a c-section, but I had a myomectomy (abdominal removal of fibroids), which doctors view as being the same as a c-section. When I told my current OB that I was seeking a second opinion, she dropped me as a patient. Now, Im learning that many doctors in Chicago are anti-VBAC. In reality the c-section rate in the U.S. is one of the reasons that the maternal and infant mortality rate is higher than many other countries. Doctors try to scare patients into c-sections because there is less liability for them. They always stress the risks of VBAC and not the risks of repeat c-sections. This topic isnt on most peoples radars. It wasnt on mine when I was pregnant with Ava. Luckily I had progressive doctors in Manhattan who wanted to do what was best for me. I just wanted to share because this is something extremely important to me. If anyone knows of Ob/Gyns who are supportive of VBACs please message me because until I find one Im currently without obstetrical care.
