If rollerblades and cut-off shorts are your thing, then Venice Beach should be on your summer hit list. Located in #LosAngeles, #California and best known for its’ long beach front full of circus like action, Venice Beach is more than hot pants and basket ball by the ocean. Teaming with interesting sights, cool places to explore and great eats, Venice is a great summer destination. Walk the walk A trip to Venice Beach is absolutely not complete without a stroll down the promenade. This 2-mile long pedestrian only boardwalk is possibly some of the best people watching anywhere. From Muscle Beach, a outdoor weight lifting area to handball courts, paddle tennis courts, a Skate Dancing plaza, tons of volleyball courts and more there is truly so much to take in, you might just spend all your day watching the locals and tourists from around the globe. There is also a myriad of shops, restaurants and unique architectural residences to take in as you stroll the boardwalk. Hidden Gem A little gem perhaps not well known to explore at Venice Beach is the historic canal district. This lovely area, man-made and restored in 1993 is a great walk. Created to evoke the canals of Venice, the area fell into some disarray over the years until the resurgence in 1993 with a multi-million dollar renovation. Now you will find beautifully renovated historic homes side by side with larger modern ones. This stunning area, rich with flowers and beautiful trees, is a great respite from the chaos of the beachfront. Shop with the cool kids Named “The Coolest Block in America” by GQ published Style Guide, Abbot Kinney Boulevard is a must when you visit Venice Beach. Located a few blocks away from the boardwalk, this street named for the founder of Venice Beach offers a eclectic range of shopping. From vintage shops to modern designers and of course, surf tees and beach cruiser bikes, you are certain to find a great treasure to take home. There are also so very interesting galleries for those inclined to enjoy a bit of art while shopping. A bar with a view Situated 7 stories up on top of the chicest hotel in Venice Beach, the High Rooftop Lounge at the Hotel Erwin is the place to be. After strolling the sights and taking in the craziness of Venice Beach, a much-needed beverage or two to decompress should be on the menu. The 360-degree view is perhaps the most impressive asset. Add that view to a killer cocktail list and this spot is it. You can easily waste away the late afternoon into the evening here. The food menu is also worth a try and after the sun goes down, order your meal from glowing, LED menus. Created by Lynn May Gosselin.
