InPowered In the game broken telephone, people usually sit in a circle. Then a designated leader softly whispers a word to the person next to him. The receiver does the same to the person seated next to him or her. This is repeated on and on to the last person. The thrill of the game begins when people say what they heard. Its amusing to hear how an original word like Hi-fi could end up as Heavy Hefty or Hive. A similar thing happened when the Bible was being translated from Greek to English. God would say something like Agape to mean The God kind of Love, Philio to mean brotherly love, and Eros for Romantic love, but English uses the word Love for all the three. Much will be lost if all you feed on is an English Bible. I could show you many mistranslations in the Bible, but my focus is on the word Helper in John 14.16 It was translated from the Greek word allos parakletos . Allos Parakletos is a compound word that means another one of the same kind. The Holy Spirit would be everything that Jesus was to the Twelve disciples and play the roles Jesus played when He walked this earth. So whenever you read the gospels know that whatever Jesus did for the people then, He sent the Holy Spirit who does that work. He sent The Holy Spirit to be our Father to provide, protect, guide etc. In times when we are discouraged or were cast down He lifts up and assures us of the Love of God. This is especially when we go through such difficult moments that there is no human words that could give us the assurance we need. Counselor: He guides us in decision making. He gives us accurate information from Gods Mind so we dont proverbs 14.12 our lives. We often make mistakes not because we intend to be sinful or rebellious but we simply lack sufficient information. For most people its not a competition between good versus evil but good versus the best. We often get in the trap of doing good ideas that are not God ideas. Like Abraham, his often leads us getting into Ishmael situations where we create things and we become slaves of our creation. We try help God and we end up in crutches. Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death. The Holy Spirit plays the advisory role in our lives just as Mordecai, Naomi, and Jethro gave good advise to Esther, Ruth and Moses during their moments of crisis. The next time your about to make a serious decision just stop and pray Holy Spirit what do you think. And if your really listening He will Psalms 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go. I will guide you with my eye. 9 Do not be like the horse which has no understanding that must be forced and broken into submission. 1st Cor 2:6-16 Teacher: He leads us into all truth,reminds, makes practical, and brings understanding to what Jesus, The Word taught us. He is responsible for making The Word to become flesh. He turns the Written Word into rhema or manna. John16:7-15. The Holy Spirit inspired the Holy Scriptures, if we listen to Him and let Him teach us, we will forever be inspired. He will teach deep truths that no school, teacher, mentor or book could reveal. Helper: He equips us to accomplish our Purpose. Jesus in Acts 1.4 commanded the disciples not to dare leave Jerusalem without them having received the Holy Spirit. This is because its impossible to accomplish Gods will for our lives without the help of His Spirit. Zechariah 4.6b ...not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit says The Lord. Acts1:8 But you shall receive power when The Holy Spirit shall come upn you and you shall be my witneses in Jerusalem,Judea,Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. The Holy Spirit turns your simple gifts into instruments of global impact. Intercessor: He prays for us by praying through us. Praying in tongues is one of our greatest privileges. Where we can have communion with His Spirit. Man is a spirit, He has a soul, he lives in a body. Mnay times we pray wrongly for our ignorance of Gods perfect will. Praying in the Spirit is praying the perfect prayer where God on earth and God in heaven are talking through the human spirit. Its the Holy Spirit says Son, you dont know what you really need. I know the future better than you know the past.So let Me talk to the Father on your behalf Romans 8:26-27. Advocate: He speaks for us by speaking through us Lk12:10-12 And when they bring you to trials, dont worry or plan what you will say 12 For The Holy Spirit shall teach you what you ought to say. Lk21:12-19 verse 15 I will give you a mouth and wisdom which your enemies will be unable to answer or resist. Mrk13:11 Strengthener: The Grace of The Lord Jesus and The Love of God is experienced through Fellowship with The Spirit. 2Corn13.13 Stand by: He takes charge when everything we know,have,and everyone has failed us.
