Interview with Kenvy Cheveulon, Youth Director of Conservatrice Baptist Church by the Disciple Project and Laura Fene 1. How are you brother Kenvy? Kenvy: I am doing well and excited to be here. 2.At what age did you start working with the Youth Of Conservatrice Baptist Church? Kenvy: I was about 22 years old when I started working with the youth ministry. Therefore it’s been 7 years since I’ve been pastoring the youth of our church as a youth director. 3.What are the ministries that are open to the youth? Kenvy: We have worship ~ Praise Dance ~ Choir ~ Drama ~ Prayer ministry. We have 5 ministries that are active and plan to open another two which are College and newsletter ministry. 4.How do you handle conflict? Kenvy: That’s a tough one. There will always be trouble among teenagers but you need to have structure or discipline that will handle the situation. I remember one time two of my youth members had an altercation with each other, I had to intervene. I didn’t come in to blast anyone but I stepped in to find common ground between the two and help them realize that’s not what we are here for. We are here to serve and worship our Lord. They apologize to each other and move on. 5.What are your strengths? Kenvy: I believe my strengths are communication and leadership skills. When it comes to communication, I love to talk to the youth. I find ways to connect with them in many areas of their life. You can ask anyone of them, they will always tell you that brother Kenvy always have some kind of speech to motivate and inspire us. As far as leadership, I believe one of the reasons why this youth ministry still stand is because this ministry doesn’t revolve around one person. Anybody can be replaced at any time, including brother Kenvy. We always have leadership seminar to embrace future leaders. 6.What are your weaknesses? Kenvy: Lol. Sometimes I get angry too easily when the youth doesn’t want to listen when I am giving instruction during rehearsal. I don’t think that’s a weakness because it’s hard dealing with kids like Foslin, Laura, Melia, Wiljohnson etc….. They are handful. Lol. Another one, I am not organized at all. I need help with that. 7.Between brother Charles and Serales, who is your favorite assistant? Kenvy: That’s a tough one. I firmly believe both have great potential to do the work that I am doing. For example, brother Charles is very firm when it comes to discipline. He is very strict and also have a passion for worship ministry. Brother Serales is very friendly to the youth and love to counsel the youth that needs it the most. He has a passion for choir ministry. All in all, to answer the question both of them are my assistants because yonn kouvri pou lot. Brother Charles pa ka fonktyone san brother Serales et brother Serales pa ka fonktyone san brother Charles. Therefore, both of them are my favorite assistant. Lol 8.How does the youth ministry affect you as a husband and father? Kenvy: It affect me a lot. First of all, I am a teacher. I teach Monday through Friday. That means I always need to prepare lessons, grade students classwork, and develop myself as an educator. I am also responsible to lead my family into their walk with God. I thank God for giving me a wife that understands ministry. Sometime she is mad with me for coming home on Saturday at 6pm. I rarely have time to spend with my two lovable sons. However, I still find a way to make it work. But I need to create more time for my family because they come before ministry. I might be a great minister but if my family is falling apart, it doesn’t mean anything. That’s my goal for the year 2015 to create more time for my family. 9.We know during the year one of your key leader left the ministry, how did it affect you or the youth? Kenvy: You are talking about sister Rosie. She is my heart. I really love this girl and still love her. When she left, the praise dance ministry took a big hit because she was well connected with her members and they had a bond together. However by the grace of God, we have sister Fenoune and other youth leaders who have taken the role to counsel the members that it’s going to be okay. As of now, we have sister Samantha and Laura who are working diligently with the members, and little by little we are doing much better. Remember we are an institution, someone can leave, yes we will be affected but we have to move on because we have work to do for the Lord. Can’t stop, won’t stop. 10.What is your favorite moment in La Jeunesse? Kenvy: I have a lot of favorite moments. I remember our biggest drama play – Pa gen tan anko and also Chwa Pa-m. I remember those days, I felt bless. Furthermore, I remember the day of my wedding, it was a pleasure to see how the youth choir and praise dance ministry minister on my special day. I literally cried because I was and still proud of my youth members. They supported me big time and showered me with gifts and donations. I didn’t have breath in me at that point. 11. Please tell us your last thought. Kenvy: On Sunday November 30th 2014 at 7:00PM, please come and support Lajeunesse Conservatrice with this program called ~ Youth Celebration ~ Who is despising your youth. This is the first time you will see how the new generation will stand together as ONE to declare God Is Not Dead because He is still working in our lives through singing-dancing-acting-preaching etc….. Like brother Cawens always say “Se pa di poum di-w, se la pou-w la. Finally, Happy Thanks giving to all. Mennen Konba nou!
