Isnt odd and amusing, if it wasnt so sad...that the dweeb, dork,nerd in High School, you know...the one you didnt have time for, the one who never quite fit in, had time to go defend your ass while you went on special trips as graduation gifts from Mom and Dad. I guess it is just my bitterness over the way we were and are treated as Vietnam vets showing. I did not play football, or really any sport. I did not do good scholastically, in short...I was never in the in crowd. When I walked off the stage after graduation, the principal asked me what I was going to do for graduation.....I told him, as I handed him my cap and gown, Nothing Mr. Rowland. I cant afford to go to the Worlds Fair like most of them, I gotta go to work in the morning on my milk route. A year later I was in Vietnam. I was NOT drafted...I enlisted. Why because I thought it was right. I saw many others, who were healthy enough to wrestle or play football, get exemptions for being not fit enough for combat. Bullshit...for the most part they were cowards in my opinion. They went to college and got a 4 year head start on the guys like me (and VERY few others) who enlisted. Back then we were a joke, a punch line, a group of fools and suckers, who enlisted. Now it is popular to say Thanks for your service.....ya know what.....its too late. We now know that WE were the Alpha males...not the sports jocks or the in crowd. Most of you have never proved yourselves...and never will. Live with it.
