It is a pleasure for me to present this video of Hanns-Christoph Nägerl giving his inaugural lecture at the University of Innsbruck in Austria on May 8, 2012. Hanns-Christoph Nägerl does research on experimental physics and his research group experimentally investigates the properties of ultracold Atomic and molecular quantum gases. At sufficiently low temperatures close to the absolute zero phenomena Bose-Einstein condensation and superfluidity occurs. The ultracold gases serves as the realization of model systems, by which quantum-theoretical calculations can be tested. The goal of many research groups is the creation of so-called quantum simulators worldwide. Complex quantum systems are usually not classically predictable yet quantum gas systems of even the simulation can do such things. By means of the European Research Council, Nägerl wants to investigate the properties of strongly interacting quantum gases in new ways. We want to apply a recently developed technology, the quantum gas microscope, to quantum gases, where the interaction between properties are customizable. Nägerls research group would also like to dissect so strongly interacting quantum gases and like for example your Ordungsverhalten with single Atom resolution elicit their secrets to them.
