It is fairly difficult for a woman to take care of herself and her children all by herself... It gets even harder when you enable and take care of an irresponsible man... Many of us would survive just fine if we find the strength to divorce (maybe I should not use that word because we usually arent married to them - I just think the word expresses the urgency to separate ourselves from that mess better). We need to stop fooling ourselves into thinking we are a dual income home when he does the bare minimum... Acknowledge and admit that you have to reimburse him anyway for every time he helps you when he makes a counter loan or asks you to help him with something... Acknowledge it when his presence does not bring a major difference to your finances but actually adds to the household expenses he barely undertakes to cover... Acknowledge it when he does not replace or repair that which he destroys and you have to incur additional costs to replace or fix it... Stop glorifying the one time he meets you in your need and recognise that he should be duty bound to take care of you and your two’s children and household expenses every month in EQUAL measure... The more you make excuses for a man who will not be responsible, the more you enable him and will remain in a financial rut... You will be better equipped to stand on your own two feet when you stop lying to yourself and relying on a man who cannot stand on his own two feet and who cannot really help you stand...
