Its Penguin Appreciation Day. And thus, I must appreciate. In the past year, I managed to increase my proximity to a penguin thanks to a program that saw the Aquarium of the Pacific let the baby chicks walk around in a designated area by a crowd. On top of also watching the employees clean the tank earlier that day, I have had my share of memorable moments. If you care to see the exhibit, check out their page on explore.org. Also, while I know that we all will likely take time to watch March of the Penguins (a classic celebrating its 10th anniversary this year). If you are bored by that one, please consider, if you can track it down, Spy in the Huddle. It follows the lives of penguins in three different climates and does a lot of ingenious filming thanks to their robotic animals. Its worth it just to watch penguins climb over a mechanical moving rock. Also, that mechanical bird is just brilliant. On another note, there is a newish Tim Allen/Richard Attenborough documentary called Penguins 3D. I plan to check it out tomorrow and get back to you. And finally, heres a video from Werner Herzogs documentary Encounters at the End of the World, for which he received his only Oscar nomination (to date). Its quite something, especially with that voice.
