Just one of the many comments on Black Girls Run don’t change the name. black girls run! is a slogan tailored to empower black girls who consistently find themselves underrepresented at marathons, gyms, society, etc. if empowering myself and caring about my health makes a white person feel “excluded”, why should i care? it’s obvious that not only are they CHOOSING to feel that way, they obviously don’t recognize the white privilege they have that allows them to join a marathon, look at a fitness ad, or join a gym and not have to wonder about where the white people are. and i also agree with someone upthread who said that we shouldn’t have to go on the defensive nor use pathological behaviors in the black community to explain the purpose of the group. black girls run! is meant to empower and provide representation for black women who run or want to run. full stop. being pro-black is not being anti-everyone else, and i refuse to pander to someone’s unchecked privilege trying to explain that basic premise. they should figure that out on their own and if they can’t then they should keep their comments and looks to themselves.
