KNSG BUDGETS N210.76 BILLION FOR 2015 FISCAL YEAR Kano state government is to spend N210, 761, 327, 885 in the 2015 fiscal year, the state governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has disclosed. The amount comprises N135, 548, 957, 885, representing 64 percent for Capital expenditure and N75, 212, 370 or 36 percent for recurrent expenditure. The governor, who made this known while presenting the state 2015 Appropriation Bill to the state House of Assembly on today, Wednesday, explained that the 2015 budget tagged “Budget of Celebration of Success”, is lower than that of the previous year by seven percent. Shedding light on the estimated revenue for the budget, Gov. Kwankwaso stated that it includes Internally Generated Revenue, N45, 672, 617, 411, Statutory allocation, N 52, 200, 000, 000, Value Added Tax, N10, 600, 000, 000, Other receipts, N5, 410, 532, 069 and Total Capital Receipts, N 96, 878, 178, 405. A breakdown of the capital sectoral allocations of the budget indicate that Infrastructure got the largest share of N86.03 billion, followed by Education, N18billion, Health, N4.95billion, Water supply, N3.66billion while Agriculture was allocated N2.86billion. Reiterating that despite the nationwide cash crunch his government would not take any loan to finance its mega projects, the governor mentioned that besides completing them, the government plans to embark on new ones. They include power evacuation from Tiga and Challawa Gorge dams at the cost of N5 billion, an Independent Power Project at Wasai Dam, Minjibir Local Government, N1.2 billion, the construction of Gadar Madobi-Yako-Kwanar Dangora road at the cost of N3 billion, dualisation of Sheikh Jafar road at the cost of N1.5 billion as well as an under-pass at Sharada-Panshekara road at the cost of N980 million. He told the state legislature that the present government would continue to embrace reforms and legislations that would improve general welfare of the people, pointing out that the administration is putting the state in its rightful place as a modern mega city. “I wish to call on all the House members, public servants, and actors in the private sector and civil society organizations to play their respective roles towards its successful implementation for a better Kano state,” Kwankwaso concluded. In his remarks after receiving the bill, the Speaker, art. Hon. Isiyaku Ali Danja assured the governor that the House would expedite deliberation and pass it into law so that people would continue enjoying the dividends of democracy in the state.
