LOTS of events helping to kick off the Christmas season in Monterey this week... Monday-Friday Craft Fair at the First Volunteer Bank during business hours. Tuesday, December 3rd Monterey Branch Library: (6 p.m.) Christmas at the Library…Heritage Academy Choir. Wednesday, December 4th Monterey Senior Center: Sandi Vandicore will share her vast knowledge of the Monarch Butterfly. Monterey Branch Library: (11 a.m.) Story time with Ms. Misty for preschoolers and home school children. Saturday, December 7th Mountain Top Christmas: The Monterey FCE will have their annual Mountain Top Christmas crafr and bake sale at the Monterey United Methodist Church. Luncheon also provide for $7. Lunch consists of sandwich, soup\chili, dessert and drink. Monterey Branch Library: (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.) the Friends of the Monterey Branch Library will conduct their monthly book sale at the library. Friday, December 6th (6 p.m.) TREE LIGHTING. The Monterey Depot Historical Society will officially light their flag pole Christmas tree. Refreshments will be served . Saturday December 7th (5:30) TREE LIGHTING. Monterey Downtown Inca. Will have their tree lighting at the WPA building prior to the Christmas parade. Monterey Christmas Parade: (6:30 p.m.) Monterey Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Monterey Civitan Club, the Monterey Lions Club, the Monterey Garden Club, the Monterey FCE Club and the Monterey VFW and Auxiliary will be Saturday, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. Excitement is already growing. The parade will form in the Monterey High School parking area beginning at 5 p.m. The parade route will proceed west on Commercial Ave.; south on Poplar; east on Depot; south on Holly; east on Stratton; ending near Volunteer Energy Co-Op. Float competition will be judged in five divisions: Religious, private groups, community based clubs, commercial and industrial. Cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded to first, second and third place finishers in the religious, community based clubs and private groups. Trophies for first, second and third place will be awarded for entries in the commercial and industrial divisions. Float sponsors must be clearly visible on the entry to facilitate judging. Winners will be announced at BenAnnas, in downtown Monterey, immediately following the parade. The theme for the parade is the same as ever: CHRISTMAS. Safety and liability issues prohibit the throwing of candy and other treats by parade participants. Violators will be removed from the parade. Antique car entries must be 25 years or older, have no loud mufflers or racing engines. Four and three wheelers are prohibited unless towing a float. City ordinances pertaining to noise will be strictly enforced by the Monterey Police Department. Sunday, December 8th Pancake Breakfast: (7 a.m. – 11 a.m.) The Monterey Depot Historical Society will have a Pancake Breakfast featuring pancakes, sausage and coffee, milk or juice – all for just $5. The event will take place at the Cup & Saucer Restaurant in downtown Monterey. Tickets are available at the Monterey Depot Museum or at the door.
