Let Aila wear a pair of pants that had some paint from doing a painting a few weeks ago to school today. Fresh out of the drier, some little paint spots on the thigh. Wondering how long before we get a call from one of EVANS care team letting us know she smells like cat piss again? Because they did just that last week - called Evans care coordinator to let her know Aila had an odor of cat urine on her clothes, backpack and locker - and we had several people verify her clothes and backpack had no smell at all other than laundry detergent. Katie and our in-home therapist for Evan verified there was no odor in her locker Monday morning. Had the same thing happen when we were going for a 504 for Zachary a few years ago because of his attention deficit disorder. They make false claims and file with DCF, and even if there had ever been a smell (which there never has), they never once notified us, the parents. Why? For lack of better terms, we were told that that is just how they roll. Worse of all, Aila is dealing with enough emotional problems because of Evans mood disregulation and his behaviors towards her. The other day we brought a new backpack and a change of clothes to the school (that was when we discovered there was no smell at all) and Katie had her change. Aila wound up crying and refused to go back to class because she thought her friends would think she had an accident. All because someone at that school blatantly lied. Again, I ask you....why? After speaking with someone in another school district, telling him what happened and posing these very questions to him, he gave me the answer I already had in my mind - that the school uses tactics like this to point blame at the parents so they can shrug off their civic responsibility when a child requires an education plan that requires funding on their part. Yup. MONEY. Something stinks at Memorial School in Upton, alright, but it AINT my kids clothes or anything else.
