Long, but worth the read. 21 Things You Should Remember About Life: 1. When your friends ask you to hangout, and you don’t feel like it, don’t go. Don’t ever do things halfway or do something that makes you uncomfortable. With everything, give all of yourself, even the pieces you never knew existed. 2. It is okay to not know. Everyone always despises the phrase, “I don’t know” but no one tells you that it is okay to not know. So I’m telling you, it is ok not to know. The becoming is more important than the being. 3. If someone ever makes you feel less, in any way, you have every right to walk away. You have every right to cut out toxic people in your life. To close the door on people who make you feel bad about whom you are or what you stand for. Friends don’t tear down, they build up. 4. Loss is always going to happen. Just like paint will always chip and rain will always fall, loss will always be part of life. No matter how much I don’t like it, or avoid it, it is going to walk my way at several times in my life. Learn to embrace it and learn to get closure. 5. Give yourself a chance. Stop saying, “I don’t think I can” or “But what if I am not able to?” and give yourself a chance. This may be cliché, but try to believe in yourself. When you get older, your knees won’t work the same and you won’t have the best memory, and you are going to wish you’d given yourself a chance years sooner. 6. Fall in love. Don’t be guarded before you fall in love. You could fall in love three times and still not find the right one, but none of it is going to make “the one” matter less. Don’t fall into that idea that your first love has to be your best love. Fall in love as many times as it naturally happens. 7. Firsts are going to be messy. First loves, first kisses, first dates, first failed tests, first college class, first time you drive a car, first time you ride a plane - first times were made to be imperfect. Just because it’s messy and all over the place, doesn’t mean it can’t be good or worthwhile. 8. You want another scoop of ice-cream? Go get it. Get three more scoops of ice-cream if that is what you want. “Fat” is not the opposite of beautiful and it is not the opposite of happy. Don’t let anyone tell you that your body type isn’t beautiful. Beauty is a social construct, create your own, become your own. 9. Let yourself be alone. Loneliness is not a bad thing. It is healthy and normal. Everyone needs to spend a good portion of their life alone. We learn who we are when we are alone. Life is less crowded and more clear when we are alone. 10. Being unimpressed by everything makes you look like a twat. Don’t be a twat. Get excited, be overly passionate about something. Enthusiasm is fun. 11. If you aren’t happy where you are, change it. Move your bed to the other side of the room, switch out of that class with the teacher who hates you, become a vegetarian, get a new hobby, pick up an old hobby, whatever you do - make sure it benefits you. Life is too short to not be alive, to not be passionate and overflowing. 12. Day and night cycles are natural. Humans only sleep at night because we used to avoid predators in the dark because of our poor eyesight. Sleep when you are tired. Do not mindlessly obey the sleep at night rule. If you are not tired, do not sleep. Stay awake until 5am watching bad reality shows. Wake up at 7pm and have breakfast. 13. You are allowed to be angry. But the world is not working against you. The flowers do not bloom for you and when your mother shouts ask her if she is okay instead of thinking she hates you. She never will. The world walks beside you and is silent. It does not trip you up or carry you. 14. Washing your hair is going to be a chore. Brushing your teeth is going to be a chore. Changing your clothes will be a chore. But you should do it anyway. Because you will feel better about yourself. 15. Get up late. Have a lay in. Sleep past your alarm. You have a very long life ahead of you and for now you should appreciate the cold side of your pillow. 16. Get up early. Get up when you’re groggy and can barely function. Watch the sunrise. Go for a hike. Have a cup of tea with someone you love. You’ll only feel tired for a little. Who knows how many more mornings you have left. 17. He is going to break your heart but he’s just another male human who finds it hard to deal with Mondays, too. So in a month you’ll wake up and you won’t even remember that little scar on his knuckle you kissed, what you talked about at 1am a few Thursdays ago, or how he voice sounded the first time he said your name. 18. Don’t spend hours looking up what your name means on Google. Your name is your name and you should go out there and do heroic and good deeds and give your name your own meaning. 19. Victim complexes are not attractive. Boys and girls will not date you because you are sad. They are not going to date you and kiss your aching bones and cure you of your dragging depression. Laying in bed all day and eating too much is lazy and disgusting and it is not tragic or pretty. Get up. Go outside. Let the sun warm your bones. Wake up. Take a bath. Do your hair. Be attractive. Live. 20. If it makes you happy, buy twenty of it. Dedicate your life to it. Print it on t-shirts and collect things and draw art of it. Do not care what people think. They are the unhappy people you need to avoid. The abuse they will hurl at you is painless compared to how sad they are. Pity them. Remain happy. 21. Do not kill yourself. Killing yourself is very messy and your mother will cry over you. It is not beautiful or brave, and even if it was, you will not be around to see that.
