Loughner, Holmes, Lanza, Alexis... All planned their attacks well in advance. Therein a "waiting period" would have served no use and cannot be called a "common sense solution" since it would have prevented nothing. All passed or could have passed expanded background checks since not one of them had been declared by a court to me mentally deficient and not one of them had a felony conviction on their record. Therein expanded or universal "background checks" would have served no use and cannot be called a "common sense solution" since it would have prevented nothing. Common sense solutions = things that would actually have some reasonable chance of achieving the desired goal(s).
