MASSIVE NEW INVESTMENT TO UPGRADE OF BELLS LINE OF ROAD The NSW Government will deliver $43 million in new funding to upgrade the Bells Line of Road. Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner and Roads Minister Duncan Gay today announced the $43 million in funding would include safety works, realignments, improved overtaking opportunities as well as planning for future works. Mr Stoner said the majority of the funding would come from Restart NSW, the State’s infrastructure fund. “This funding represents the most significant investment on this strategic corridor in a generation and is great news for people living in the Central West,” Mr Stoner said. “The Nationals have fought hard for infrastructure funding for regional NSW, and by securing 30 per cent of Restart NSW for regional projects, we are able to deliver this much-needed upgrade to the Bells Line of Road. “Last year’s long term strategic plan for the Bells Line of Road corridor identified the need for safety and traffic improvements for the existing route and I am pleased to say we are delivering on that. “This is yet another example of the Government’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure to regional communities.” Mr Gay said the new upgrades would improve road safety and reduce travel times along the corridor. “Today’s announcement is further evidence the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is committed to fixing regional roads,” Mr Gay said. “In the past two years we have spent an historic $3.7 billion and $3.8 billion respectively on spent on rural and regional roads. “In contrast, the average annual funding for country roads under NSW Labor was only $2.4 billion. “On top of these record roads budgets, we’ve also committed an extra $135 million from Restart NSW towards ‘Bridges for the Bush’ – a $290 million works program to upgrade or replace bridges at 17 key locations across country NSW to improve road safety and freight productivity.”
