Mariah Carey’s version in the 90s brought Without You” back - TopicsExpress

Mariah Carey’s version in the 90s brought Without You” back to the public attention, although her vocal gymnastics failed to match the quivering longing of Nilssons rendition. Her version, based on Harry Nilssons version rather than the Badfinger original, was released as a single of the album “Music Box”. It was released on 24 January 1994, just over a week after Nilsson had died, aged 52, following a heart attack on 15 January 1994. The song debuted at #1 in the UK, hit #3 in the US, and remains Careys biggest hit across Europe. The record went on to become a commercial radio perennial. Its radio exposure multiplied, though in a fashion that annoyed many who had valued Nilssons interpretation, and not Mariah Carey’s unimaginative cover version. youtube/watch?v=Z8pz9bQhrNM
