Mayor & City Council Declaring July 17 Mattie J.T. Stepanek Day for Citizens of Rockville, Maryland During the July 14 City Council meeting, Mayor Bridget Newton and the Rockville, Maryland City Council will issue a proclamation to declare July 17 (Mattie’s birthday) a a day of peace for local citizens. They will also publicly sign the petition asking U.S. President Barack Obama to declare July 17 as a nationally recognized Mattie J.T. Stepanek Peace Day for citizens of the entire country. On Saturday, July 19, the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation will host a Peace Gathering in Mattie’s Park, inviting people to come for “cake and conversation.” During the event, participants will have an opportunity to sign the national peace day petition and reflect on peace. Also, the Mayor and City Council will be recognized for their long-term support of Mattie’s peace mission, and a new peace pole will be unveiled in the Peace Garden. Join us!
