Meet Leki Jackson-Bourke NIUE/ENGLISH from the village of Fineone - TopicsExpress

Meet Leki Jackson-Bourke NIUE/ENGLISH from the village of Fineone Hakupu Atua, TONGA/IRISH (Neiafu Vavau) and SAMOA/CHINESE (Talimatau Apia). Born and bred South Aucklander from a Family consisting of Mum, Dad and older Brother. Leki is a professional story teller aka performing artist and am in and out of different jobs in the industry. He has worked as an actor, script writer, stage manager, Pacific dancer, Pacific choreographer, teacher and an MC. Leki loves being able to share pacific stories through the different forms of art, he loves giving our people a voice and letting our voice be heard on stage. Keeping our ancestors alive through us and our ability to story tell. Leki is a graduate of Best Pacific Institute of Performing Arts (PIPA 2011). Leki is inspired by our Matuas, our old people who are walking, talking, living, breathing and history books. When he hears stories from old people it inspires him to keep culture alive. One of his favourite sayings is a Samoan proverb O Le upu Le Ala I Le pule O Le tautua / IN ORDER TO LEAD, YOU MUST SERVE / through service you gain authority. Lekis goal right now as an artist is to share our voice with the world and to make sure it is authentic and not watered-down by mainstream rules and laws. He cant stand it when our Pacific voice is misrepresented or interpreted by others incorrectly, before doing anything cultural he always make sure he consults a cultural advisor.. an older person to oversee that everything is appropriate with in context... Our culture is not something to buy off trademe. It is a gift from our gafa/ancestors who fought the good fight so we could be here today..for me, its about honouring them. Special Thanks Leki Bourke for your time :)
