Mid-week wildlife fact: The Galapagos marine Iguana is the only known reptile that has the capacity to not only shed muscle and fat, but to shed bone and sections of spine as well. This allows the species to reduce energy and nutrient requirements to an extreme level to survive through severe algae droughts, at a time where feeding is almost impossible. At present, the only known mammal capable of doing this is Kate Moss.
