"Moses said to the whole Israelite community, “This is what the Lord has commanded: From what you have, take an offering for the Lord. Everyone who is willing is to bring to the Lord an offering of gold, silver and bronze; blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; ram skins dyed red and another type of durable leather; acacia wood; olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece. “All who are skilled among you are to come and make everything the Lord has commanded: the tabernacle with its tent and its covering, clasps, frames, crossbars, posts and bases; the ark with its poles and the atonement cover and the curtain that shields it; the table with its poles and all its articles and the bread of the Presence; the lampstand that is for light with its accessories, lamps and oil for the light; the altar of incense with its poles, the anointing oil and the fragrant incense; the curtain for the doorway at the entrance to the tabernacle; the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils; the bronze basin with its stand; the curtains of the courtyard with its posts and bases, and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard; the tent pegs for the tabernacle and for the courtyard, and their ropes; the woven garments worn for ministering in the sanctuary—both the sacred garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when they serve as priests.”" Exodus 35:4-19 The tabernacle was to be dedicated to the honor of God, and used in His service, and therefore what was brought for it, was an offering to the Lord. Our goodness extends not to God, but what is laid out for the support of His Kingdom and interest among men He is pleased to accept as an offering to Himself, and He requires such acknowledgements of our receiving our all from Him and such instances of our dedicating our all to Him. The rule is, Whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring. All that were skilful must work. God dispenses His gifts, and as every man had received, so he must minister. Those that were rich, must bring in materials to work on, those that were skilful, must serve the tabernacle with their skill, as they needed one another, so the tabernacle needed them both. The work was likely to go on when some helped with their purses, others with their hands, and both with a willing heart. Moses, as he had told them what must be given, so he gives them the general heads of what must be made, that, seeing how much work was before them, they might apply themselves to it the more vigorously, and every hand might be busy, and it gave them such an idea of the fabric designed that they could not but long to see it finished.
