NEWS ALERT: Authorities search for missing helicopter The Grand County Sheriff’s Office and the Utah Department of Public Safety are currently searching for a helicopter and its two occupants who were reported overdue on April 6, 2014. The helicopter, piloted by Robin Venuti, and passenger Albert Rubio, left Green River on Sunday, April 6, at approximately 11:15 a.m. to search for elk antler sheds, Grand County Sheriff Steve White said today. The helicopter was reported overdue at about 8 p.m. on Sunday. A Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter is assisting in the search. The DPS helicopter used infrared technology to search an area east of Green River on the evening of April 6 after authorities were told the men were planning to hunt for antlers in that area, according to White. The search continued approximately midnight. Search crews, including another helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft have broadened the search to include nearby counties in Utah and western Colorado, White said. The Utah Civil Air Patrol was also expected to join the search sometime today. The surrounding counties were contacted and airports checked in those counties to determine if the helicopter landed within those jurisdictions, but so far, the aircraft remains missing, according to a news release from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities also pinged Venuti’s and Rubio’s cell phones, but were unsuccessful in locating them. Anyone with information on the helicopter is asked to contact the Grand County Sheriff’s Office 435-259-8115. The Times-Independent will keep you posted as new information becomes available.
