New Zealand’s Muslim Community has requested a meeting with the Prime Minister and Sam Lotu-Iiga, Minister for Ethnic Communities, and been turned down. Many are being picked on, particularly women with headscarves who are easily identified as Muslim, because of the atrocities committed by ISIS. Isnt that exactly why we have an Ethnic Affairs Minister? The 40,000 Muslims in New Zealand are one of the most peace-loving communities we have. If they hear of radicalisation occurring here, they are the ones likely to tell the Police. Theyre on the front lines. Keeping the lines of communication open with them is one of the most important things we can do in New Zealand to nip problems before they become violent. Sadly it looks like the national government respects Muslim values when it involves multi-million-dollar halal meat exports, but not so much when Muslims themselves feel worried about their safety and the safety of their children. Come on John and Sam, surely youre not that busy?
