News in Brief (NZTR) Baker & Forsman team strong chance for Ellerslie feature double The Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman training partnership look well placed to score a feature race double at Ellerslie on Tuesday with promising gallopers Thunderbird One (NZ) (Storm Creek) and Neo (NZ) (One Cool Cat) looking well placed in their respective events. Thunderbird One will attempt his first middle distance contest in the Gr. 3 Sofitel Luxury Hotels Stakes (2000m) while one race later Neo takes on a tidy open handicap line-up in the Carbine Club Trophy (1600m). “We are pretty excited to see Thunderbird One step up in distance as his breeding suggests he will appreciate more ground and it will be a decent challenge for him at weight-for-age for the first time,” noted co-trainer Andrew Forsman. “He has been finishing on strongly at his last two starts and we are very happy with him although it is a strong line-up with plenty of class in his opposition. Recent Gr. 1 Spring Classic winner Ransomed (NZ) (Handsome Ransom) heads the field for the Group Three contest with Foxbridge Plate winner Postmans Daughter (NZ) (Postponed) and last year’s Waikato Cup winner Annie Higgins (NZ) (O’Reilly) amongst the main contenders. Forsman is also pleased with Neo as he looks to cap some consistent form with a win in the Carbine Club Trophy. “He tried his heart out a Trentham on a track that was very testing and has come through the run in fine style,” he said. “He has drawn nicely and has gone well on the track before so he must be given a good chance to get a deserved win.”
