O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. This is the inscription on the miraculous medal of Mary, a sacramental that originates from an apparition of Mary to St. Catherine Laboure. It comes to mind as we prepare to celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, tomorrow. It is a great gift to usher in a new calendar year with a reminder of why we honor Mary. Rather than resolutions, Ive been thinking about how to more often have recourse to Mary. What can I give to her this year, so that she may present it to our Lord in the way that only a mother can? How can I encourage my children to do the same? Our prayers and petitions are imperfect, but Mary can refine and purify them, allowing our Lord to give us exactly what we truly need.
